Nuclear Power is NOT the answer to Climate Change !

Switch to a non-nuclear tariff

Many people are against the UK Government’s plans for new nuclear power stations and there are a number of actions that can be taken to oppose new nuclear.

Most of us are supplied with electricity which includes a proportion of nuclear power. Even some ‘green’ tariffs include nuclear power in their fuel mix, and others which are nominally 100% renewable are really just juggling the supplier’s fuel mix to give their green customers more of their renewable electricity, meaning that other customers are given an even higher proportion of nuclear and fossil fuels.

And all of the big six suppliers (or their parent companies) are believed to be in the running to build new nuclear power stations in the UK. (More >>)

We believe that the best electricity tariffs are those from suppliers who don't purchase any nuclear power in order to supply any of their customers.

We have only been able to identify two suppliers who do not include any nuclear power in their overall fuel mix: Good Energy and Green Energy UK.

Supplier Tariff Tariff details Company fuel mix
Good Energy 100% Renewable 100% of the electricity comes from renewable energy sources; generated entirely from wind, small-scale hydro, wave and solar power. company fuel mix 100% renewables
Green Energy UK Green Energy 100 100% of the electricity supply coming from renewables including wind, solar, combined heat and power (CHP), small-scale hydro-electric, energy from biomass (miscanthus grass and woodchip) and organic waste material (pig waste). company fuel mix 32% renewables, 68% natural gas
Green Energy UK Green Energy +10 Supplies 10% renewables above the Government-set renewables obligation (7.9% for 2007/08 rising to 15.4% by 2015/16), with the rest coming from good quality gas-fired Combined Heat and Power (CHP) projects. company fuel mix 32% renewables, 68% natural gas
